The Palazzo exhibition design quite literally was UnEarthed. A giant grid of 14x14 inch USM was cut using a sphere in Rhino, the portion that was cut turned over and into the USM furniture in the Giardini. The grid that remained is what is in the Palazzo, with the cut tubes left to preserve this digital process, the first time in USM’s history that a tube with its end floating in space was used. Displayed throughout are architectural modes from Cloud 9, Honors College super-studio work, and two pieces of ceramic form Ellen Braaten’s Studio in Blacksburg.
This project is the culmination of a year and a half of work from the No Blue No Green honors college studio at Virginia Tech. Special Thanks Enric Ruiz-Geli, Kevin Jones, Ellen Braaten, Jon Thorson, Ana Bilski and Soren Winistorfer.
